Why do brands like Dr. Bronner’s and Weleda fail this audit?

Discover the difference between naturally-derived isolates and 100% raw, vegan ingredients. Our directory filters out the chemicals and animal products found in mainstream green beauty to bring you the purest eco-friendly, cruelty-free bath and body brands available.

What are the ethical & sustainable bath + body brands criteria?

This ethical & sustainable brands directory focuses on 100% raw natural materials, kept as close to the source as possible.

It is curated for those who seek truly non-synthetic products.

The list of bath + body brands only list 100%  vegan products.

Ingredients that have not been isolated, chemically standardized, or lab-processed to fit an industrial mold.

While this rigorous filter leaves us with only a handful of brands, these brands offer complete clarity.

How brands get rejected

This ethical and sustainable brand directory focuses on 100% raw, natural materials kept as close to the source as possible.

Curated for those seeking truly non-toxic, synthetic-free products, we feature ingredients that have not been isolated, standardized, or lab-processed to fit an industrial mold.

While our rigorous filter leaves only a handful of plant-based brands, they offer complete transparency and chemical-free clarity for the conscious consumer.

Aside from essential tech like laptops and phones, I only list products in their most natural state 100% transparent and entirely free from synthetics like clothing to slave free chocolate.

If you seek the absolute unfiltered truth in your products, you’ve found your home.

Why these 'sustainable' brands appear on other directories like Good On You

Brands like Dr. Bronner’s and Weleda are celebrated as sustainable leaders and rightfully so for their commitment to organic, cruelty-free ingredients they represent a different standard than what we uphold here.

Even Dr. Bronner’s has engaged positively with my posts regarding their ethics

but there is still a gap between “natural” and “raw.”

This is where Hold The Throne stands apart.

I cater to the purist.

And what I’ve learned from engaging with my audience of 70k+ followers, everybody has their own reasons. It’s not always what you think.

Some people are navigating severe allergies

or

some people choosing to live as close to nature as possible (and there are hundreds of reasons why).

What ever your reason, my platform is built for you.

Quick Glossary On Fully Natural Criterias

On this list, we differentiate between “Naturally Derived” (processed) and “Raw” (unprocessed).

1. The Isolate Barrier (Dr. Bronner’s)

Dr. Bronner’s is legendary for its ethics, but its formula relies on two specific lab isolates:

  • Industrial Citric Acid: In modern manufacturing, this isn’t squeezed from a fruit. It is an isolate produced through the fermentation of sugar by mold (Aspergillus niger). It is used as a standardized pH buffer.

  • Tocopherol (Vitamin E): This is a refined antioxidant isolate. In a truly raw product, Vitamin E remains inside the whole oil (like raw Shea). These brands add it as a separate, lab-purified concentrate to ensure a two-year shelf life for global shipping.

2. The Pharmaceutical Barrier (Weleda)

Weleda creates high-performance “pharmaceutical-grade” natural care. This requires complex processing:

  • Emulsions: To create a consistent cream, they use Glyceryl Stearate and Alcohol to bind water and oil. A “Raw” product uses whole balms or oils that do not require these chemical bridges.

  • Non-Vegan Isolates: Many of their flagship products rely on Lanolin (wool wax) or Beeswax, which are animal by-products and do not fit our 100% Vegan criteria.

3. The Surfactant Barrier (Faith In Nature)

To achieve the high-foam, crystal-clear texture of a modern shampoo, Faith in Nature uses Industrial Surfactants:

  • Ethoxylated Ingredients: Even if “derived from coconut,” ingredients like Ammonium Laureth Sulfate involve a chemical reaction with ethylene oxide (a synthetic gas). This creates the “big bubbles” consumers expect, but it is a “technical fail” for botanical purity.

  • Nature-Identical Preservatives: They use Sodium Benzoate and Potassium Sorbate. While safe and eco-friendly, these are lab-synthesized versions of natural molecules, not raw plant parts.
