The brand

About Freedom Ecowear

Freedom Ecowear makes its garments from recycled and natural fibres, using ECONYL regenerated nylon described as 100% made from pre and post-consumer waste such as ghost fishing nets, fabric scraps, carpet and industrial plastic recovered from oceans and landfills for solid colours. For its prints the brand applies a polyester spandex made from 81% recycled post consumer PET and 19% Lycra via digital stamping that uses 0% of water. Freedom Ecowear also works with hemp, which it calls the most sustainable natural fibre on the market at the moment, and with OCC Guarantee organic cotton grown in America using rain water only with no irrigation, farmed biodynamically without insecticides and from Non-GMO seeds.

Every Freedom Ecowear piece is made in the brand’s own workshop, Sol Luna Atelier, in La Vega in the Dominican Republic, where product design, patternmaking, cutting, sewing, finishing, dyeing, washing, final inspection and shipping preparation are all carried out. This Dominican brand runs a zero waste production model that collects and reuses all leftovers from pattern paper to the tiniest fabric scraps, and it works only with natural and recycled-sourced materials from the closest suppliers in Latin America, North America and West Europe. Freedom Ecowear took three years to redesign its supply chain and build this eco-atelier, moving into the new premises one week before the 2020 pandemic lockdown began in the country.

Freedom Ecowear finishes its fabrics with natural plant-based dyes and uses NATULON zippers by YKK that are made from recycled PET bottles through mechanical recycling. Alongside its circular-economy and zero-waste principles, the brand plants trees, natives and wildflowers for the pollinators at Sol Luna Atelier while maintaining the originals. The Our Materials page displays certification marks including FSC, Green Energy, ISO 9001, Bluesign, EcoCert, GRS and Handmade Paper.
