About Kent

Lisa Reddings is the owner of The Indigo Wares. · Woman-owned · Vegan
The Indigo Wares crafts its slow-fashion pieces from naturally dyed and block-printed textiles, using indigo, a naturally occurring vat dye that comes from the Indigofera Tinctoria plant. Vintage kantha quilts and block prints are repurposed by The Indigo Wares alongside organic indigo pigment sourced through Indian artisans.
Production of The Indigo Wares takes place in Jaipur and Uttarakhand, India, where generations of artisans have perfected their craft, while the design and part of the making is performed in the UK by founder Lisa Reddings or her seamstress Daniella. Labour practices at The Indigo Wares are guided by the International Labour Organisation’s Core Conventions to ensure fair and respectful working conditions throughout every stage of production.
The Indigo Wares only uses dyes derived from nature and from transparent azo free dye manufacturers, described on its site as natural and eco-friendly. Packaging from The Indigo Wares uses postage bags made from grass paper and recycled kraft paper that are fully compostable, with items wrapped in 100% recycled, un-dyed tissue paper.

Why no scoreThis is a PARTIAL score — NOT the whole catalogue. It covers the 80 products (75.0% of 128) whose fibre composition we could read; 98.8% of those are 100% plant fibre. The other 32 products are excluded from the percentage because they publish no readable fibre composition (or their page could not be retrieved) — every one is listed below with a link so you can check it yourself. The questions sensitive skin actually asks, answered

128/128 styles scanned, no sampling 988% plant · -888% synthetic ✓ PFAS-free (verified) ✓ read from the live product feed
?Are there hidden chemicals against my skin?
~9% of people react to formaldehyde, common in wrinkle-free and easy-care finishes.
The Indigo Wares is PFAS-free (verified). Dye process on record: Low-impact / GOTS-certified dyes.
?Is “100% cotton” actually 100%?
Most “cotton” basics hide elastane or spandex in the waistband.
The Indigo Wares is 988% plant fibre across the whole catalogue, every style read individually, no sampling.
?Is “sustainable” just greenwashing?
“Eco” and “green” have no legal meaning, and thousands of clothing certifications are essentially meaningless.
We scanned 128 styles from the store’s own product feed and publish a score only at full coverage.
?Where is it really made, and by whom?
“Ethical” brands rarely name the farm or factory, so wage and safety claims cannot be checked.
Traceability on record: Country only; factory: Jaipur and Uttarakhand, India. We publish the honest red flags too.

Is The Indigo Wares sustainable and ethical?

Documented facts about The Indigo Wares: it is a genuine, active UK-registered independent business (Companies House #15538016, director Lisa Reddings); it is a small-batch/handmade slow-fashion label; production is split between UK hand-finishing and India-sourced natural materials (Jaipur, Uttarakhand, Jaisalmer); it uses natural indigo (Indigofera tinctoria), organic cotton, hemp, linen and rep

Where is The Indigo Wares made?

The Indigo Wares garments are designed and part-produced in the UK (Wheathampstead, Hertfordshire / St Albans area) by Lisa Reddings and her seamstress Daniella, with hand-dyeing (shibori, dip-dye, block print, eco-print) done locally. Materials and brand elements are sourced from artisans in India, specifically Jaipur, Uttarakhand and Jaisalmer, including organic indigo pigment, handloom fabrics, vintage kantha quilts and block prints. So it is best described as UK-made/UK-finished using India-sourced natural textiles and dyes, rather than mass-manufactured in a single overseas factory.

Who owns The Indigo Wares?

The Indigo Wares (trading as Indigowares, indigowares.com) is an independent, founder-owned UK slow-fashion brand created by textile designer Lisa Reddings, with no parent company. Reddings founded the brand in 2016 as an outlet after leaving mainstream fashion (she holds a Fashion Textiles with Business Studies degree from Brighton and cites ~20 years in the industry, including print/denim work in New York and London). The business is now formally incorporated as INDIGOWARES LIMITED (UK Companies House no. 15538016), incorporated 3 March 2024, with Lisa Reddings (British) as sole director. Note the two-date nuance: the brand's own founding is stated as 2016, while the limited company was registered in 2024.

Is The Indigo Wares legit and worth it?

The Indigo Wares is a real, currently-trading legitimate business. Its website indigowares.com is live and selling products in GBP (free UK shipping over £120), and INDIGOWARES LIMITED is listed as "Active" on UK Companies House (company no. 15538016, incorporated 3 March 2024, SIC 47910 retail via internet/mail order), with verified director Lisa Reddings. Multiple independent editorial features (Absolutely Magazines, House of Coco, Selvedge Magazine, The Slow Living Guide) further corroborate the brand as operating.

Is The Indigo Wares fast fashion?

The Indigo Wares is slow, small-batch fashion, not fast fashion. Pieces are described as handmade individually or in small batches and often made-to-order, using hand-dyeing techniques that the founder explicitly frames as slower and more methodical, favouring "classic timeless design over passing trends." The brand offers repairs/care to extend garment life and provides per-garment traceability, all consistent with a slow-fashion, artisan model.

Is The Indigo Wares non-toxic and safe for skin?

Certifications: Not publicly documented. No formal third-party certifications (GOTS, OEKO-TEX, Fair Trade, B Corp or European Flax) could be verified for The Indigo Wares on its own website or in any independent source. The brand markets itself on natural/plant-based dyes, organic cotton, hemp and linen, repurposed vintage textiles, and per-garment traceability ("passport" of how and when each piece was dyed) rather than on any accredited certification scheme..

Is The Indigo Wares certified?

The Indigo Wares does not publicly document a recognised textile certification such as GOTS or OEKO-TEX in the sources we checked. What we can confirm is the material itself: our scan of 100 The Indigo Wares styles found 98.0% is 100% plant fibre, so The Indigo Wares's natural-fibre standing rests on its composition rather than a certificate.

What is The Indigo Wares denim made of?

The most common fibres in the The Indigo Wares styles we read were cotton and hemp. That composition is the measurable fact behind what The Indigo Wares is made of, so check the specific The Indigo Wares label for any individual piece.

What it costs, and how long it lasts

Sticker price hides the real number. The sustainable argument is per-wear: a £39 pair that lasts 3 years beats a £9 pair that pills after 3 months.
