The reserve holds one of the most mature remaining stands of Lesser Antillean dry forest in the Eastern Caribbean, one of the most endangered habitats on earth, and is habitat for the critically endangered Union Island gecko. Guided access exists specifically to protect rare and endemic species, which is the right reason for a guide requirement. We name the species and the reserve and publish no route detail, because collection for the pet trade is what nearly wiped the gecko out.
