About Blueview

Owner · Blueview was co-founded by Dr. Stephen Mayfield (CEO), a distinguished professor of biology at UC San Diego and founder of Algenesis Corporation, and Tom Cooke (President), formerly VP of Product at Reef and a footwear director at Vans.

Blueview is the US footwear brand behind the world's first fully biodegradable shoe, the BLUEVIEW Pacific, launched in 2020 from La Jolla, California. Every component of a Blueview shoe. The knitted hemp, TENCEL Lyocell (eucalyptus) and organic cotton upper; the jute strobel; and the Soleic plant-based polyurethane insole, cupsole and outsole. Is designed to return to the earth rather than persist as microplastics, with the whole Pacific biodegrading in under a year in industrial composting conditions. The brand was co-founded by Dr. Stephen Mayfield, a distinguished professor of biology at UC San Diego and founder of the materials company Algenesis, and Tom Cooke, formerly VP of Product at Reef, and carries a USDA BioPreferred bio-content certification of 58% on both the Pacific and the Atlantic.
