What is the interior really made of?

Paste the trim or interior description from the maker. Leather, PVC and PU are flagged, and the plant and recycled materials are confirmed.

Official range is measured at 23C with gentle acceleration. Which? found a 16 percent average shortfall.

Range

What range will you actually get?

Official figures are measured in mild conditions at gentle speeds. This shows the range at motorway speed and in winter.

Battery safety

Most electric bike and scooter fires start with an uncertified pack or a mismatched charger.

Is the battery actually certified?

Most e-bike and scooter fires start with an uncertified pack or a mismatched charger. UL 2849 tests the battery, charger and controller together, and it is law in New York and California.

What this scan could read

Audi Q4 e-tron 35 is scored from Green NCAP's published lifecycle assessment, which runs from raw material extraction and battery manufacture through 240,000 km of use to end of life recovery, and assumes a 16 year life. Green NCAP rates Audi Q4 e-tron 35 at 84%. That percentage is placed on the Throne Standard ladder without adjustment, so 100% is 5 out of 5, 90 to 99 is 4, 70 to 89 is 3, 40 to 69 is 2 and below 40 is 1. The figure and the datasheet behind it are linked on this page so it can be checked.

Not recorded (4): Audi publishes nothing this read could use for: interior materials, recycled content percentage, wool content, tyre compound. These are shown as unstated rather than estimated.

Red flags found while reading this brand
  • The range figure is a laboratory number. WLTP is measured at 23C with unrealistically gentle acceleration. Which? measured a 16% average shortfall across UK market models, and in cold weather What Car? found no car came within 20% of its official figure, with some short by nearly 40%. In mixed UK driving most electric cars return 70 to 80% of the number on the brochure.
  • Carbon neutral usually means offset, not reduced. The ASA now bans carbon neutral and net zero claims that rest on offsetting unless the offsets can be shown to work, after a Guardian investigation found more than 90% of offset schemes worthless. The ASA has already ruled against a car maker on air quality claims. Check whether a claim describes emissions actually cut or emissions paid for elsewhere.
  • Tailpipe zero is not pollution zero. Non exhaust sources are now around 60% of roadside PM2.5 and 73% of PM10, and tyre wear alone runs over a thousand times the regulated exhaust limit. No maker publishes a tyre wear figure, and Euro 7 is the first rule to touch it.
  • Check what is rented rather than owned. Makers have charged a monthly fee for heated seats where the hardware was already fitted and paid for. BMW charged 18 dollars a month for it in 2022 and later called it a mistake, and firmware for the 2024 Model Y pointed to paid front heated seats alongside a range limited in software to 260 miles. Ask what stops working if you stop paying, and whether it passes to the next owner.
  • Assume the car is collecting, and check what it sells. Mozilla reviewed 25 car brands and every one failed its privacy standard, the worst result of any product category it has assessed, worse than mental health apps. 84% admit sharing personal data, 19 say they can sell it, and more than half share with government or law enforcement on request. Some policies list sexual activity, health, race and genetic information.
  • A car that needs an app is a car with an expiry date. If core functions depend on the maker’s servers, the useful life is set by how long those servers run, not by the mechanicals.

Would a knock write it off?

Insurers write off electric cars after damage that would be a modest repair on a petrol car, because a scratched pack with no cell data cannot be signed off.

Makers quote recycled content on interior plastics or one named part. This converts it to a whole vehicle basis.

Recycled content

Does the recycled claim hold up?

Makers quote recycled content in different ways. Enter what they claim and see what it covers.

Repairability

Can it be repaired, or is it sealed?

Straight answers

Is the range figure on this page the one I will get?+
No, and no maker says so. Official range is measured at 23C with unrealistically gentle acceleration. Which? found a 16 percent average shortfall across UK market models, and in cold weather What Car? found no car came within 20 percent of its official figure, some short by nearly 40 percent. In mixed UK driving expect 70 to 80 percent of the brochure number.
Does animal free mean plastic free?+
No. The branded trims sold as vegan leather, Veganza, Sensatec, MB-Tex, Artico and SofTex among them, are polyurethane or PVC. PVC is softened with phthalates, which are endocrine disruptors, it does not biodegrade, and it sheds microplastics as it wears. Removing the animal is a real gain on welfare. It is not automatically a gain on materials.
If it has no tailpipe, does it pollute nothing?+
No. Non exhaust sources are now around 60 percent of roadside PM2.5 and 73 percent of PM10, and tyre wear alone runs over a thousand times the regulated exhaust limit. Battery electric vehicles cut brake dust by roughly 83 percent through regenerative braking but add tyre wear through weight, netting about 38 percent less total particulate than petrol. No maker publishes a tyre wear figure, and Euro 7 is the first rule to touch it.
What does carbon neutral mean on a vehicle?+
Usually offset rather than reduced. The ASA now bans carbon neutral and net zero claims resting on offsetting unless the offsets can be shown to work, after a Guardian investigation found more than 90 percent of offset schemes worthless. The ASA has already ruled against a car maker over an air quality claim. Check whether a claim describes emissions actually cut or emissions paid for elsewhere.
Am I buying the features, or renting them?+
Worth checking before you sign. Makers have charged a monthly fee for heated seats where the hardware was already fitted and paid for, and firmware for one 2024 model pointed to paid front heated seats alongside a range limited in software. Ask what stops working if you stop paying, and whether it passes to the next owner.
What is the car doing with my data?+
Mozilla reviewed 25 car brands and every one failed its privacy standard, the worst result of any product category it has assessed. 84 percent admit sharing personal data, 19 say they can sell it, and more than half share with government or law enforcement on request. Some policies list sexual activity, health, race and genetic information.
