Data licence

Accommodation records include sourced observations, historical operator information and versioned assessments. A collected source is not independently verified environmental performance. Republish only the supported finding, its scope, source, date and limitations.

Why this exists

Under the UK DMCC Act and the CMA supply chain guidance, repeating somebody else’s environmental claim can make you liable for it, and the evidence has to exist before the claim is published. From 27 September 2026 the EU Empowering Consumers Directive also bans sustainability labels that are not based on third party certification.

Both rules create the same requirement: somebody outside the company making the claim has to have checked it, and the check has to be evidenced and dated. We set out both rules in full, with sources, on the green claims law page.

Coverage, as it actually stands

338 published accommodations; 4 currently scored and 334 with a score withheld. Checked 2 October 2026 under Accommodation Eco Score 2.1.0.

Field completeness is not an environmental score. Only reviewed evidence earns weighted points; missing evidence remains unavailable. Read the current method and evidence thresholds before using the data.

The schema

The current Accommodation Eco Score uses eight weighted pillars, rather than counting populated database fields.

PillarWeight
Nature and conservation30%
Buildings and materials15%
Energy15%
Water10%
Waste10%
Food10%
Transport5%
Transparency5%

Reports distinguish reviewed pillar evidence from collected sources and historical operator descriptions. A certificate requires its issuer, holder, scope and validity to be checked; an empty field is not proof that no certificate exists.

Take the sample before you talk to us

Read current public reports and their sources before requesting licensed data. Unsupported scores stay unavailable.

Refresh and terms

  • Refresh cadence. Quarterly, with certification fields re-checked on the same cycle.
  • Delivery. JSON or CSV, or a read only endpoint against the live data.
  • Attribution. Records carry the method version they were assessed under, so you can cite the assessment as at a fixed point.
  • Corrections. Anything we correct is dated and logged in public, so a downstream record can be reconciled.

How we stay usable as a source

  • The method is published and versioned at the Throne Standard, so it can be cited in a compliance file.
  • Our commercial relationships are disclosed at independence, including a register of everyone who has paid us. Ratings are not purchasable.
  • Every rating can be challenged, by anyone, through corrections.
