The brand

About Daughters Of India

Daughters of India makes its garments from natural fibres, mostly cotton with some linen, worked with traditional artisan techniques. Across the brand’s all-dresses collection the fabrics named include hand block print cotton, hand block print linen, double gauze cotton, hand screen print cotton and shibori tie-dye cotton.
Every Daughters of India piece is handcrafted in India, made by the brand’s team in the village and surrounding areas of Jaipur before being shipped from its warehouse in Tweed Heads, NSW. This Australian-based label describes itself as slow fashion and states that it does not do ranges and does not wholesale.
As a slow fashion brand, Daughters of India focuses on quality over quantity, producing small quantities rather than large ranges. The label has pledged an ongoing monthly donation of $5,000 to each of its charity partners, Sewing the Seeds, Saheli Women and Barakat Bundle, in support of women’s empowerment in India.

What the label won’t tell you

The questions sensitive skin actually asks, answered

182/182 styles scanned, no sampling 95% plant · 5% synthetic PFAS-free (verified) ✓ read from the live product feed, not the marketing page
?Are there hidden chemicals against my skin?
~9% of people react to formaldehyde, common in wrinkle-free and easy-care finishes.
Daughters Of India is PFAS-free (verified). Dye process on record: Low-impact / GOTS-certified dyes. We record the dye process and chemical flags for every brand.
?Is “100% cotton” actually 100%?
Most “cotton” underwear hides elastane or spandex in the waistband, exactly what sensitive skin reacts to.
We read all 182 styles individually: 95% plant, 5% synthetic. Even the elastics are bio-based, not spandex. We flag any style whose description hints at a trim.
?Is “sustainable” just greenwashing?
“Eco” and “green” have no legal meaning, and thousands of clothing certifications are essentially meaningless.
We scanned 182 styles from the store’s own product feed and publish a score only at full coverage.
?Will the elastic bring me out in a rash?
Latex and rubber in waistbands are a top trigger for contact dermatitis and latex allergy.
95% plant, 5% synthetic across the catalogue means the elastics aren’t spandex. Set your allergy profile and we only show you brands that clear it.
?Am I shedding microplastics onto my body?
Synthetic underwear sheds microplastics into skin and water with every wash.
95% plant fibre, plastic-free, so there’s zero synthetic to shed. Every style read individually, no sampling.
?Where is it really made, and by whom?
“Ethical” brands rarely name the farm or factory, so wage and safety claims cannot be checked.
We publish the full sourcing chain, farm and factory certifications, traceability level and the honest red flags, including where sources conflict. Traceability on record: Not disclosed; factory: Small village-based factories near Jaipur, Rajasthan, India.

Sources: consumer research on formaldehyde in easy-care fabrics (~9% of people react), PFAS in water- and stain-resistant finishes, and hypoallergenic underwear for eczema and contact dermatitis.

Is Daughters Of India sustainable and ethical?+
DOCUMENTED / CORROBORATED: Independent identity, Australian ownership (Megan Pentland founder; Greg Pentland co-owner/CEO), Northern NSW base, and Jaipur, India artisan production are consistent across the brand's site, Peppermint magazine, Wandering Folk, Wellbeing and Inspiring Wit features. Slow-fashion, direct-to-consumer, made-to-order-style cadence is well corroborated. The brand's stated mo
Where is Daughters Of India made?+
Daughters of India garments are handcrafted in India, in small, village-based factories/workshops close to Jaipur (Rajasthan), using hand block printing, hand looming, discharge screen printing and traditional artisan techniques. The brand is designed and headquartered in Australia (Tweed Heads / Northern NSW) and ships direct-to-consumer; it states it does not wholesale.
Who owns Daughters Of India?+
Daughters of India is an independent Australian slow-fashion label founded by Megan Pentland, based on the coast of Northern New South Wales, Australia (warehouse in Tweed Heads, NSW). It is a family-run private business, not part of a larger parent company: Greg Pentland is listed as Co-Owner and CEO (LinkedIn), and Megan Pentland is credited as founder in both independent press (Peppermint magazine) and the brand's own journal. Reported to have launched around 2017, initially as a children's label before expanding to womenswear; the ~2017 date appears in secondary search summaries and aligns with a "since 2017" supplier agreement the brand cites, but is not stated verbatim on a primary brand page, so treat the exact year as approximate. A separate India-based making facility outside Jaipur is described as set up by a woman named Anushree (per Inspiring Wit); this is the production partner, distinct from the Australian brand ownership.
Is Daughters Of India legit and worth it?+
Yes. Daughters of India is a real, currently-trading legitimate business as of July 2026. Its e-commerce site (us.daughtersofindia.net / daughtersofindia.net) is live with in-stock, purchasable products ($109-$269 range), active "New Arrivals" and "Back In Stock" collections, and social/retail presence (Instagram, LinkedIn, stocked by Australian retailers such as Paradise Living Co. and GlamCorner). Note: not to be confused with same-name entities in other sectors, e.g. daughtersofindia.in, an unrelated Indian girls'-mentorship nonprofit.
Is Daughters Of India fast fashion?+
Slow / small-batch, not fast fashion. Daughters of India explicitly positions itself as a slow-fashion label: it releases one style at a time when ready rather than in seasonal collections, states styles "can sometimes take up to a year to restock," designs pieces to be timeless rather than trend-driven, sells direct-to-consumer (no wholesale), and cites the goal of not overworking artisans. Volumes and cadence are consistent with a genuine small-batch operation.
Is Daughters Of India non-toxic and safe for skin?+
Certifications: Not publicly documented as holding formal consumer textile certifications. Daughters of India does NOT publicly claim GOTS, OEKO-TEX, Fair Trade (FLO/WFTO), B Corp, or European Flax certification. Independent coverage (Peppermint magazine) and reviews describe its Jaipur facility as "Sedex Fair Trade Certified" / working to Sedex ethical-audit standards, but this is a facility-level supply-chain audit claim reported in secondary sources, not a verified consumer certification confirmed on Sedex's platform. The brand self-describes as "fair trade" without naming a certifying body..
Is Daughters Of India certified?+
Daughters Of India does not publicly document a recognised textile certification such as GOTS or OEKO-TEX in the sources we checked. What we can confirm is the material itself: our scan of 145 Daughters Of India styles found 90.3% is 100% plant fibre, so Daughters Of India's natural-fibre standing rests on its composition rather than a certificate.
What is Daughters Of India made of?+
The most common fibres in the Daughters Of India styles we read were cotton and linen. That composition is the measurable fact behind what Daughters Of India is made of, so check the specific Daughters Of India label for any individual piece.
