Canali

This report documents what Canali publishes about its ownership and supply chain — see the sourcing and transparency sections below. Canali’s supply-chain transparency is rated 3 out of 5.

Canali’s product range has not been scanned product-by-product to the Throne Standard, so no whole-catalogue fibre percentage is shown here — a headline fibre figure is only published once 100% of a catalogue has been read.

About Canali

Canali garments are made 100% in Italy. The company operates its own production centres in Italy (its About Us page cites five; Wikipedia’s older figure cites seven factories) and employs roughly 1,500 people worldwide (about 950 in manufacturing/hand-finishing), producing about 250,000 pieces annually. Around 70% of production is in Canali’s own workshops with the remaining ~30% entrusted to monitored Italian third-party suppliers; production centres include sites in the Marche and Abruzzo (Gissi) regions. Canali markets its “100% Italian” know-how as a core identity.
Canali is an independent, privately held Italian luxury menswear house founded in 1934 by brothers Giovanni Canali (a fabric merchant) and Giacomo Canali (a tailor) in Triuggio, in the Brianza area north of Milan. Canali remains family-owned and is now run by the third generation, headquartered in Sovico, Italy, with Stefano Canali as President and CEO (CEO since 2018). It is not owned by any luxury conglomerate (LVMH, Kering, etc.); the family abandoned only its “family-managed” operational policy in 2007 while retaining family ownership and leadership.
Yes. Canali is a real, currently-trading legitimate business, not defunct. It reported sales of about 207 million euros in 2023 (roughly 90% international), operates around 190 boutiques plus 1,000+ points of sale across more than 100 countries, celebrated its 90th anniversary in 2024, and appointed a new creative director for 2026. Its official sites (us.canali.com, eu.canali.com, gb.canali.com) are live and selling.
Canali is not fast fashion. It is a slow, artisanal luxury tailoring house: hand-finished suits and jackets that pass through 300-plus production steps, a made-to-measure offering, high price points, and a relatively low annual output (~250,000 pieces) made in company-owned Italian workshops rather than high-volume, low-cost, rapid-turnover disposable fashion.
Canali is a mixed-material brand.
How we scan. Every figure comes from the Throne Standard scan: we read the fibre composition off each live product, style by style, and count only single-fibre plant cloth (cotton, linen, hemp) as natural. Animal and plastic-based synthetic fibres sit outside the plant-fibre figure, and regenerated fibres such as viscose, rayon, modal and Tencel are counted as semi-synthetic.
