Etro

This report documents what Etro publishes about its ownership and supply chain — see the sourcing and transparency sections below. Etro’s supply-chain transparency is rated 1 out of 5.

Etro’s product range has not been scanned product-by-product to the Throne Standard, so no whole-catalogue fibre percentage is shown here — a headline fibre figure is only published once 100% of a catalogue has been read.

About Etro

Documented facts about Etro: it is a Milan-based luxury house founded in 1968, “Made in Italy” positioned, and since 2021 controlled by private-equity firm L Catterton, with the founding family fully exited as of December 2025. Marketing vs.
Etro positions itself as a “Made in Italy” luxury brand and is headquartered in Milan, Italy; Wikipedia notes that all Etro items are produced in-house except for its home-collection furniture. The precise factory locations and full supply-chain details for Etro garments are Not publicly documented, though the brand’s more elaborate prints have historically been created/hand-painted in Lyon, France, a traditional fine-textile center.
Etro is an Italian luxury fashion house founded in 1968 by Gerolamo “Gimmo” Etro in Milan, Italy, originally as a textile design company. Etro was family-owned and family-run for decades (founder’s children Kean, Jacopo, Veronica and Ippolito Etro held creative and management roles). Etro is no longer independent: in 2021 the LVMH-backed private equity firm L Catterton acquired a 60% controlling stake (valuing the company at roughly €500 million), and in December 2025 the founding family sold its remaining minority stake, completing its full exit, leaving L Catterton in control (approximately 51% after a capital increase) alongside new minority industrial investors.
Etro is a real, currently-trading, legitimate luxury fashion business, not defunct. Etro continues to show ready-to-wear collections at Milan Fashion Week (including Spring 2026, Pre-Fall 2026 and Fall 2026 collections) and operates a global retail network reported at around 140 stores across roughly 58 countries; this is the Italian clothing/fashion house, distinct from any same-named entities in unrelated industries.
Etro is a luxury fashion house, not fast fashion. Etro produces high-end designer ready-to-wear, accessories and home goods sold at luxury price points through runway-led seasonal collections and its own boutiques, the opposite of the high-volume, low-cost, rapid-turnover fast-fashion model.
Etro is a mixed-material brand.
How we scan. Every figure comes from the Throne Standard scan: we read the fibre composition off each live product, style by style, and count only single-fibre plant cloth (cotton, linen, hemp) as natural. Animal and plastic-based synthetic fibres sit outside the plant-fibre figure, and regenerated fibres such as viscose, rayon, modal and Tencel are counted as semi-synthetic.
