Guess

This report documents what Guess publishes about its ownership and supply chain — see the sourcing and transparency sections below. Guess’s supply-chain transparency is rated 3 out of 5.

Guess’s product range has not been scanned product-by-product to the Throne Standard, so no whole-catalogue fibre percentage is shown here — a headline fibre figure is only published once 100% of a catalogue has been read.

About Guess

Documented facts: Independent rater Good On You gives Guess an overall “Not Good Enough” rating (People/labour 2 of 5, Planet/environment 3 of 5, Animals 2 of 5). It states there is no evidence Guess ensures workers are paid living wages in its supply chain, and that Guess has not taken sufficient steps to remediate links to cotton sourced from Xinjiang, a region at risk of Uyghur forced labour.
Guess does not own its own factories; it sources from hundreds of contracted supplier factories across roughly 30 countries in Asia, Europe, Africa, and North and South America. More than one third of Guess production is made in China, with much of the remainder in countries including Bangladesh, India, Vietnam (notably footwear), Turkey, and Mexico (used for denim finishing and regional lines). Its published vendor/supplier lists confirm this multi-country contracted-manufacturing model.
Guess (legally Guess, Inc.) was founded in 1981 in Los Angeles, California, by brothers Georges, Maurice, Armand, and Paul Marciano, who had emigrated from France (Wikipedia notes their Moroccan origin). It is not an independent small label: it went public on the NYSE (ticker GES) in 1996 and operated as a public company for decades, with the Marciano family remaining major shareholders. In August 2025 a deal was announced for Authentic Brands Group, CEO Carlos Alberini, and Maurice and Paul Marciano to acquire the company; Guess went private in a roughly $1.4 billion transaction completed in January 2026, with Authentic Brands Group holding the majority (about 51% of the IP) and the Marcianos, Alberini and other rolling shareholders retaining the remainder (about 49%). Paul Marciano is Executive Chairman and Chief Creative Officer.
Guess is a real, currently-trading, legitimate global fashion and denim business, not defunct. As of 2025 it operated roughly 1,597 retail locations worldwide, and after going private under Authentic Brands Group in January 2026 it continued operating, including opening a new West Hollywood flagship “Homecoming” concept store. This is confirmed the clothing/denim brand founded by the Marciano brothers, distinct from any similarly named businesses in other industries.
Guess is a large mass-market, seasonally driven mainstream fashion and denim brand, not a slow or small-batch maker; it sells high volumes globally through around 1,597 stores and sources from about 30 countries of contract factories. It follows conventional multi-season retail cycles rather than the ultra-fast drop model of some newer brands, and Good On You does not formally label it “fast fashion,” but by scale, outsourced volume production, and price positioning it operates as conventional mass-market fashion, clearly not slow or artisanal.
Guess is a mixed-material brand.
How we scan. Every figure comes from the Throne Standard scan: we read the fibre composition off each live product, style by style, and count only single-fibre plant cloth (cotton, linen, hemp) as natural. Animal and plastic-based synthetic fibres sit outside the plant-fibre figure, and regenerated fibres such as viscose, rayon, modal and Tencel are counted as semi-synthetic.
