Barefoot Days in Jambiani
Jambiani is the quiet end of Zanzibar’s east coast, a long fishing and seaweed-farming village where the tide goes out for what looks like a mile and the water turns every shade of blue. It is where you go to actually stop.
I stay at Savera Beach Houses, low-impact and right on the sand. This is a barefoot week: swim, read, watch the tide, and let the village set the pace.

BookWhat to Do in Jambiani
Walk the tidal flats
At low tide the sea pulls right back and the whole village walks out onto the flats: women tending the seaweed farms, kids playing football, fishermen mending nets.
Swim when the sea comes back
When the tide fills back in, the swimming is warm and easy.
Snorkel the reef
Take a boat out over the reef wall to snorkel the coral and the fish while the water is clear.
How to Get to Jambiani
A final swim and out
One last swim on the morning tide, then the drive back across Zanzibar to the airport, salt-crusted and reset.
