Verdict: PARTIAL

Leaping Bunny; Estee Lauder-owned

OwnershipToo Faced has been owned by the Estee Lauder Companies since 2016, when it was bought for 1.45 billion dollars. Estee Lauder is not cruelty free by PETA's own standard and sells extensively in mainland China; that is the parent company's own policy and market footprint, not the same as Too Faced's own certified status.

CertificationsPETA's own Beauty Without Bunnies register states directly: 'Yes, Too Faced Cosmetics (Estee Lauder) is cruelty-free.' Too Faced does not appear in Cruelty Free International's Approved Brands register or in the Leaping Bunny (US) shopping guide.

Wrong claims vs the source

Claims made for this brand that could not be confirmed in a certifier's own register. A brand website is a claim, not a source.

The common framing that Too Faced simply 'does not sell in China' needs correcting: the brand ran an official Tmall Global cross border ecommerce storefront in mainland China that it only closed in August 2024, describing the move as a distribution channel adjustment rather than a market exit, and a third party retailer continued selling a small number of Too Faced products into China through its own Tmall Global store afterward. Cross border ecommerce of this kind is generally treated as exempt from China's pre market animal testing rules for standard retail import, so it does not necessarily conflict with the PETA certification, but a flat claim of no mainland China presence should be corrected to reflect this history.

Ingredient list could not be retrieved

This brand's product catalogue could not be retrieved automatically: the site exposes no machine-readable product feed, or blocks automated requests. Ingredients may still be listed on individual product pages. Its formulas are not yet verified here.

We read and categorise every ingredient for brands whose full list is published as readable text. This one could not be read automatically, so its formulas are not yet verified here. A complete ingredient list published in readable text is what makes a clean claim checkable.
