Sold as 100% bamboo and unbleached. The unbleached part is not in doubt. But a Which? laboratory fibre test (TAPPI T 401, November 2023) found the rolls were only 4% bamboo, with the rest virgin hardwood, primarily eucalyptus and acacia. Eucalyptus and acacia are the plantation trees ordinary supermarket toilet roll is made from. They are a natural plant fibre, so this is not a plastic or synthetic problem, but a felled tree is the opposite of the tree free product being sold, and the pack claim does not match the lab result. Co-founder Tom Whelan disputes the test. Held, not scored, until the fibre content is settled.
