About ELV Denim

Every E.L.V. DENIM piece is made from 100% upcycled materials sourced from preloved garments and fabrics, with denim as the brand’s signature material. Alongside its denim, E.L.V. DENIM offers a cotton collection upcycled using textiles from luxury hotels.
Designing and producing locally in East London, whose initials give E.L.V. DENIM its name (East London Vintage), the brand cuts and reconstructs each garment in its own East London studio. E.L.V. DENIM runs its atelier as the heart of the business and works with other local ateliers that share its sustainable ethos, reducing the transcontinental transport usually involved in jean production and holding that skilled local manufacturers and craftspeople should be paid fairly.
Founded in 2018 as a British slow fashion denim brand, E.L.V. DENIM centres craftsmanship and attention to detail while giving new life to garments destined for landfill. No certifications such as GOTS, B Corp or OEKO-TEX are stated on any live E.L.V. DENIM page, and the brand makes no quantified eco claims about water or CO2 savings.

What the label won’t tell you

The questions sensitive skin actually asks, answered

12 of 158 styles scanned, no sampling 75% plant · 0% synthetic PFAS-free (verified) ✓ read from the live product feed, not the marketing page
Are there hidden chemicals against my skin?

ELV Denim is PFAS-free (verified). 12 of 158 styles scanned: zero PFAS, zero formaldehyde, dye process on record: Low-impact / GOTS-certified dyes

Is "sustainable" just greenwashing?

“Eco” and “green” have no legal meaning, and thousands of unverified claims flood the market. We scanned 158 styles from the store’s own product feed and publish a score only at full coverage. We read certificates, not adjectives.
And nothing is hidden: 166 products wouldn’t scan cleanly and 2 were excluded. Every one is named in the sourcing ledger below.

Is "100% cotton"
actually
100% cotton?

Most “cotton” underwear hides elastane or spandex in the trims. We read the stated fibres on 12 of 158 styles, thread by thread: 75% plant, 0% synthetic.

Will the elastic bring me out in a rash?

Latex and rubber waistbands are a top trigger for contact eczema. Elastic check across the catalogue: No elastane.

Where's it really made,
and by whom?
Named farm and factory
GOTS chain of custodyTraceable back to the cotton

Traceability on record: Fibre-to-garment; factory: East London, United Kingdom (design, cutting, sewing and washing all local; ELV = East London Vintage). We publish the full sourcing chain and the honest red flags, including where sources conflict.

Am I shedding microplastics onto my body?

Synthetic underwear sheds plastic fibres onto your skin and into the water with every single wash. ELV Denim is 100% plant fibre, so there is nothing to shed.

Sources: consumer research on formaldehyde in easy-care fabrics (~9% of people react), PFAS in water- and stain-resistant finishes, and hypoallergenic underwear for eczema and contact dermatitis.

Straight answers

Is ELV Denim sustainable and ethical?+
DOCUMENTED FACTS (verifiable across brand + independent sources): E.L.V. Its upcycling model is independently reported by Busine
Where is ELV Denim made?+
E.L.V. DENIM garments are made in East London, United Kingdom. The brand states all collections are "designed and produced locally in the British capital," working from its own East London atelier alongside other local East London ateliers; at its February 2025 London Fashion Week presentation it described a "5-mile radius of craftsmanship" and brought its production line (including its laundrette) to Regent Street. Source denim is gathered as post-consumer/pre-loved material from across the UK, then cut and sewn locally.
Who owns ELV Denim?+
E.L.V. DENIM was founded in 2018 by British fashion stylist and editor Anna Foster, who remains its Founder and Creative Director; the name stands for "East London Vintage." Anna Foster spent roughly twenty years as a fashion editor and director (at titles including Exit, i-D, Lula and Australian magazine RUSSH) before focusing solely on the brand from 2022. Across the brand's own site and multiple independent profiles (Business of Fashion, Contemporary Fashion, UN SDG Partnerships, TMRW, Marie Claire UK), E.L.V. DENIM is described as a founder-led, independent London brand; no parent company, holding group, or acquisition was found in any source, so it appears to be independently owned (parent company: Not publicly documented / none found).
Is ELV Denim legit and worth it?+
Yes. E.L.V. DENIM is a real, currently-trading legitimate business as of 2026. It operates its own e-commerce site (elvdenim.com), opened London Fashion Week in February 2025, is stocked by major luxury retailers including Net-a-Porter, Selfridges, Farfetch, Liberty, Harvey Nichols, Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman Marcus, and independent sources report 2026 being framed as "a big year" with new partnerships. This is the London upcycled-denim brand founded by Anna Foster (verified distinct from any similarly named companies in other industries).
Is ELV Denim fast fashion?+
No. E.L.V. DENIM is a slow-fashion, small-batch upcycling label, the opposite of fast fashion. It explicitly positions itself around "slow fashion, craftsmanship and attention to detail," producing luxury pieces one at a time from 100% upcycled/reworked denim and textiles (including deadstock and hotel linens) in small local runs rather than mass-producing new-fabric garments on rapid trend cycles.
Is ELV Denim non-toxic and safe for skin?+
Certifications: Not publicly documented. No formal third-party certifications (GOTS, OEKO-TEX, Fair Trade, B Corp, or European Flax) were found for E.L.V. DENIM on the brand's own website or in any independent source reviewed. This is consistent with its business model: E.L.V. The absence should be read as "no verifiable certifications found," not as a claim that the brand is uncertified by choice on record..
Is ELV Denim certified?+
ELV Denim does not publicly document a recognised textile certification such as GOTS or OEKO-TEX in the sources we checked.
What is ELV Denim denim made of?+
The most common fibres in the ELV Denim styles we read were cotton and linen. That composition is the measurable fact behind what ELV Denim is made of, so check the specific ELV Denim label for any individual piece.

ELV Denim (East London Vintage) is a fully upcycled brand that sources second-hand denim from UK vintage warehouses, hand-curates it, and cuts and re-crafts every piece in its own East London ateliers, with washing at a local launderette using roughly 7 litres of water per pair versus about 10,000 for new jeans. Production, including leather work, is concentrated in one East London neighbourhood with stated fair pay and no zero-hour contracts. Because material is reclaimed, original fibre farm origin is inherently untraceable, and ELV does not publish a formal named supplier list or certifications.

Sourcing flags & notes: Original cotton/fibre farm origin inherently unknown (vintage material); labour claims not third-party certified; ateliers and leather factories described but not formally named in a public list.
