Features
3 of 5
Feature 1
Patagonia Wetsuits are made with 85% Yulex natural rubber and 15% synthetic rubber by polymer content, the natural rubber being a plant-based material tapped from hevea trees that replaces conventional neoprene. The linings on these Patagonia wetsuits are solution-dyed to reduce water use, with interiors of 100% recycled nylon and exteriors of 83% recycled nylon and 17% recycled spandex. Patagonia laminates the wetsuit materials with a water-based, solvent-free AquaA glue made without harmful VOCs.
Feature 2
The natural hevea rubber in Patagonia Wetsuits is sourced from Guatemala, where hevea trees are grown on reclaimed farmland. Patagonia makes its wetsuits in a Fair Trade Certified factory in Thailand, using reclaimed carbon black pigment and ingredients from old, retired Yulex suits. In 2016 Patagonia introduced what it called the world's first and only neoprene-free wetsuits made with natural rubber.
Feature 3
Using Yulex natural rubber reduces the CO2 emitted in manufacturing these Patagonia wetsuits by up to around 80 percent versus neoprene. The Yulex process removes over 99% of impurities, resulting in a nonsensitizing material that Patagonia blends with a small amount of chlorine-free synthetic rubber. Solution-dyed linings reduce water use across the Patagonia wetsuit range, and the AquaA glue is water-based and made without harmful VOCs.

Supply-chain summary
Patagonia makes its neoprene-free wetsuits with Yulex natural rubber (about 85% natural / 15% synthetic rubber) derived from FSC-certified Hevea rubber trees, with hevea rubber sourced from Guatemala to avoid deforestation. The wetsuits are assembled by partner factory SHEICO, for which Patagonia invested in Fair Trade Certification (the world's largest wetsuit factory to become Fair Trade Certified). Patagonia publishes a full factory/supplier list through its Footprint Chronicles, giving strong material-to-factory traceability.

How it was read
Throne identifies the eligible textile products in Patagonia Wetsuits's catalogue, inspects each product for published material evidence and requires at least 20 scoreable textile SKUs before publishing a brand score. The score uses only products with enough published material information to classify. Brand non-disclosure and technical read failures are reported separately. Non-textile products are excluded rather than counted as a pass or a fail.
Coverage method pre dash fix
Every product listed in the brand's live catalogue is retrieved and its stated fibre composition read individually - from the product page, the store's own product data and its material labels. A fibre percentage is published only when 100% of the catalogue has been read. Items with no clothing textile (gift cards, packaging, jewellery, homeware) are excluded from the percentage rather than counted as a pass or a fail.
