When is the best time to visit Curacao?
Curacao is warm and sunny year round, with daytime temperatures generally around 26C to 31C, and it sits well south of the main Atlantic hurricane belt so direct hurricane hits are very rare even though the official Atlantic season runs 1 June to 30 November. The drier, brighter months run broadly from January to September, while the wettest period is roughly October to December, though showers tend to be short and often fall at night. Peak season is December to April with the best weather and highest prices, while May to November is the value window with notably cheaper rooms and still plenty of sunshine.
Is Curacao safe, and how do you get around?
Curacao is considered one of the safer Caribbean islands for visitors, with violent crime against tourists rare, though sensible precautions apply: do not leave valuables visible in a parked car, lock up and avoid poorly lit areas late at night. They drive on the right, roads are generally good and traffic is relaxed, but a hire car is recommended for everywhere except central Willemstad, and an SUV helps on the rougher unpaved tracks to the far western beaches; a UK licence is accepted. The local currency is the Netherlands Antillean guilder, but US dollars are widely accepted, cards are common in tourist areas, and tipping around 10 to 15 percent in restaurants is appreciated where a service charge is not already included.
