The Western Salt Ponds of Anegada were designated a Ramsar site on 11 May 1999. Caribbean flamingos were reintroduced in 1992 after the original flock was lost, and the flock has grown. The lookout is designed so people watch from a distance rather than approaching the birds, which is exactly the right model.
