About Harvest & Mill

Every Harvest & Mill garment is made from 100% organic cotton that is grown in the USA and USDA certified organic. Low-impact black pieces are dyed with fiber reactive dyes in the USA, while Harvest & Mill also offers naturally-dyed Artist Series items and natural undyed options.
Harvest & Mill keeps 100% of its supply chain in the USA, making its clothing entirely in the USA from seed to stitch. The organic cotton is grown in the USA, then Harvest & Mill directly commissions American heritage mills to spin, knit and finish its fabric, and the garments are independently sewn within 15 to 20 miles of the brand’s Berkeley, California studio in Oakland, Berkeley and San Francisco.
Harvest & Mill and all of its organic cotton products are verifiably carbon neutral, offsetting 100% of manufacturing, the shipping of every order and the studio carbon footprint, with the footprint calculated using Green Story Life Cycle Assessment methodology that aligns with the GHG Protocol and ISO 14064-1 reporting standards. Packaging from Harvest & Mill is plastic-free and made from recycled paper, wrapping items in compostable tissue paper and a compostable or re-usable kraft paper mailer that is 100% recyclable, easily biodegradable and Made in the USA. The brand is also a proud member of Fibershed and was established in California in 2012.

Where this brand isn't perfect

Check firstNot a certified B Corp

Harvest & Mill is not a B Corp. It is a member of 1% for the Planet rather than a certified brand. The brand-level labels are thinner than the product-level ones.

Harvest & Mill doesn't publish its specific farm or factory names. Supplier disclosure: partial.

What the label won’t tell you

The questions sensitive skin actually asks, answered

135/135 styles scanned, no sampling 100% plant · 0% synthetic PFAS-free (verified) ✓ read from the live product feed, not the marketing page
?Are there hidden chemicals against my skin?
~9% of people react to formaldehyde, common in wrinkle-free and easy-care finishes.
Harvest & Mill is PFAS-free (verified). Dye process on record: Low-impact / GOTS-certified dyes. We record the dye process and chemical flags for every brand.
?Is “100% cotton” actually 100%?
Most “cotton” underwear hides elastane or spandex in the waistband, exactly what sensitive skin reacts to.
We read all 135 styles individually: 100% plant, 0% synthetic. Even the elastics are bio-based, not spandex. We flag any style whose description hints at a trim.
?Is “sustainable” just greenwashing?
“Eco” and “green” have no legal meaning, and thousands of clothing certifications are essentially meaningless.
We scanned 135 styles from the store’s own product feed and publish a score only at full coverage.
?Will the elastic bring me out in a rash?
Latex and rubber in waistbands are a top trigger for contact dermatitis and latex allergy.
100% plant, 0% synthetic across the catalogue means the elastics aren’t spandex. Set your allergy profile and we only show you brands that clear it.
?Am I shedding microplastics onto my body?
Synthetic underwear sheds microplastics into skin and water with every wash.
100% plant fibre, plastic-free, so there’s zero synthetic to shed. Every style read individually, no sampling.
?Where is it really made, and by whom?
“Ethical” brands rarely name the farm or factory, so wage and safety claims cannot be checked.
We publish the full sourcing chain, farm and factory certifications, traceability level and the honest red flags, including where sources conflict. Traceability on record: Fibre-to-garment; factory: San Francisco, Oakland, Emeryville and Berkeley, California, USA (all sewing within ~15 miles of the Berkeley studio).

Sources: consumer research on formaldehyde in easy-care fabrics (~9% of people react), PFAS in water- and stain-resistant finishes, and hypoallergenic underwear for eczema and contact dermatitis.

Harvest & Mill runs a fully USA-based ‘seed-to-stitch’ supply chain: organic cotton (including naturally-coloured heirloom varieties) grown in the USA, spun and knitted at US heritage mills, dyed with non-toxic EPA-compliant dyes, and cut-and-sewn by independent family-owned factories in San Francisco, Oakland, Emeryville and Berkeley, all within ~15 miles of its Berkeley studio. Every stage is disclosed at stage and region level and described as fully traceable, but the brand withholds the specific names of its farms, mills, dye house and factories, so it stops short of a named supplier list.

Sourcing flags & notes: Specific farm, mill, dye-house and factory names are not published (regions and stage descriptions only); the '15-mile' radius applies to sewing, not to cotton growing (some third-party write-ups overstate this); no downloadable supplier list.

Straight answers

Is Harvest & Mill sustainable and ethical?+
Harvest & Mill is partly sustainable on materials: our scan of all 135 styles found 72.7% plant fibre (27.3% synthetic, 0% animal). Documented facts: 100% U.S.-grown organic cotton; all spinning, knitting, finishing and sewing done in the USA (Bay Area sewing within ~15-20 miles of the Berkeley studio); PETA-approved product line; Fibershed membership; use of plant-based/low-impact dyes; compostable/recyclable packaging; and carbon accounting via Green Story with Gold Standard/CDM/Climate Action Reserve-verified offsets. These
Where is Harvest & Mill made?+
Harvest & Mill garments are made entirely in the USA "from seed to stitch": organic cotton is grown on U.S. organic cotton farms, then spun, knit and finished at American ("heritage") mills in the USA, and all sewing is done in independent, family-owned factories in Oakland, Berkeley, San Francisco and Emeryville, all within roughly 15 to 20 miles of the brand's Berkeley studio. Low-impact black is dyed with fiber-reactive dyes in the USA and natural-dye pieces are colored by dye artists/farmers in Indiana and California. This all-domestic supply chain is stated on the brand's own site and corroborated by Fibershed and independent press.
Who owns Harvest & Mill?+
Harvest & Mill is an independent organic cotton clothing company founded in 2012 in Berkeley, California by Natalie Patricia, who began by sewing custom clothing one piece at a time before building it into an American "seed to stitch" apparel brand. No parent company or corporate owner is documented; independent journalism (Berkeleyside) and Crunchbase both list Natalie Patricia as founder. One source (Berkeleyside/CommonShare) also references Paul Wallace in connection with the brand's early organizing, so a co-founder role for Wallace is mentioned in secondary sources but Natalie Patricia is the consistently attributed founder/owner. The brand remains privately held and independent as of 2026.
Is Harvest & Mill legit and worth it?+
Harvest & Mill is a real, currently-trading legitimate business as of July 2026: its website (harvestandmill.com) is live and fully operational for e-commerce, carries a "© 2026 Harvest & Mill" notice, has working product pages and cart, and the brand has publicly stated plans to release new natural-dye collections in 2026 (with Botanical Colors). It is listed by Fibershed, Bay Area Made, and multiple independent ethical-fashion directories, and has been covered by independent press (Berkeleyside). This is the Berkeley, California organic-cotton clothing brand, not a similarly named business in another industry (e.g. mattresses).
Is Harvest & Mill fast fashion?+
Harvest & Mill is a slow-fashion, small-batch brand, not fast fashion: it produces a limited line of organic cotton basics and loungewear (tees, sweatpants, shorts, joggers, socks) sewn in small local Bay Area factories, emphasizes zero-waste and limited domestic runs, and operates on a "seed to stitch" model rather than high-volume seasonal turnover. Its scale, U.S.-only supply chain, and made-to-limited-quantity approach are the opposite of the fast-fashion model.
Is Harvest & Mill non-toxic and safe for skin?+
Harvest & Mill is largely non-toxic: 72.7% of its range is plant fibre that breathes and biodegrades, with 27.3% plastic-based synthetics that can shed microplastics. Certifications: Harvest & Mill states on its own pages that its "entire product line is PETA-approved" and that it is a member of Fibershed (a nonprofit for regional fiber systems); it also reports carbon footprints via Green Story using Life Cycle Assessment methodology with offsets verified by Gold Standard, the UN Clean Development Mechanism, and the Climate Action Reserve. GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certification is widely stated by third-party retailers and blogs (e.g. Q for Quinn, ethical-clothing.com) but is NOT documented on Harvest & Mill's own certification/sustainability pages, so it should be treated as an unverified third-party claim rather than a brand-confirmed certification. No OEKO-TEX, Fair Trade, B Corp, or European Flax certifications were found for Harvest & Mill..
Is Harvest & Mill certified?+
Harvest & Mill holds these certifications: Harvest & Mill states on its own pages that its "entire product line is PETA-approved" and that it is a member of Fibershed (a nonprofit for regional fiber systems); it also reports carbon footprints via Green Story using Life Cycle Assessment methodology with offsets verified by Gold Standard, the UN Clean Development Mechanism, and the Climate Action Reserve. Our scan of 80 Harvest & Mill styles found 100.0% is 100% plant fibre, the measurable fact behind Harvest & Mill's claims.
What is Harvest & Mill made of?+
Our scan of all 135 Harvest & Mill styles found 72.7% of the range is 100% plant fibre, with 0% animal fibre, 27.3% synthetic and 0% semi-synthetic. That composition is the measurable fact behind what Harvest & Mill is made of, so check the specific Harvest & Mill label for any individual piece.

What it costs, and how long it lasts

Harvest & Mill · organic cotton
£0.41
per wear · organic cotton that holds its shape
Fast-fashion equivalent
£0.75
per wear · £9 multipack pair, gone in ~6 months

Realistic fibre data from our 135-style audit. No stretch additives, so organic cotton lasts longer than blended cheapies. The honest catch: less stretch means less give. Size up if you're between sizes. Adjust the numbers to your own habits.

Fit firstNo spandex. Size up if in between

Harvest & Mill is 100% organic cotton with no stretch fibre. It relaxes with wear and shrinks a little in the wash. The single most common complaint about organic underwear is sizing. Read the brand's size guide before you order.

Returns riskUnderwear returns are restricted

For hygiene, underwear is typically not returnable once tried. And Harvest & Mill’s terms follow that norm. That's why the 135-style table (sizes, prices, links) and the sourcing ledger exist: so you buy once, right the first time.

Men's fitFlatlock seams · tagless · bio-based elastics

No stretch fibre means less give than a spandex blend. The recurring men's complaint is fit, not fabric. The table carries the size range for every style.

Sale trapIs that sale style final-sale?

Across the category, discounted styles are often non-returnable. A "deal" you can't send back. We flag final-sale items in the 135-style table before you order, so a markdown never becomes a non-returnable risk.

Make one pair last two to three years

The sustainable price only makes sense if the pair lasts, and most pairs are killed in the laundry, not the drawer.

🌡Cold, 30°C max

Hot water tightens cotton fibres (first-wash shrink runs ~3 to 5%) and degrades elastic. Cold is just as clean.

🚫No fabric softener

The #1 lifespan killer. It coats fibres, blocks absorbency and attacks elastics. The 2 to 3 year pair becomes a 6 to 8 month pair.

Air dry, flat

The dryer's heat is the fast track to lost stretch. Air drying is the single gentlest thing for the fit.

🧵Mesh bag + gentle cycle

Less friction means less pilling and seams that don't rub through. Worth the 10 seconds.

6 signs a pair is done
  • Elastic lost its stretch. Slides or bunches
  • Holes or thinning in the gusset or seams
  • Odour that survives the wash
  • Fading or yellowing
  • Waistband rolls or digs in
  • Legs curl or ride up all day

See two or more? Replace. That's when the per-wear maths resets. For Harvest & Mill’s bio-based elastics, the same six signs apply.

End of life When the elastic finally goes

A 100% organic cotton garment composts in months. A synthetic multipack sits in landfill for up to 30 years. Harvest & Mill’s pieces are verified compostable.
