The brand

About Seek Collective

Seek Collective works with cotton, recycled cotton and silk, with textiles that are handloom woven, hand block printed and hand embroidered. Natural dyes are used as much as possible by Seek Collective, made from things found in nature like roots, bark, flowers, leaves, minerals and bugs, and the labels are made from organic cotton.
Designed in Berkeley, California, Seek Collective is ethically manufactured by artisan communities throughout India, produced slowly and in small batches through partnerships with natural dyers, hand block printers and hand loom weavers. The textiles end up at a small woman owned and operated stitching unit in southern India, with the final stitching done at a woman owned studio in Bangalore, where workers are paid above minimum wage, have health care support, and are kept safe and empowered.
The natural dyeing manufacturer used by Seek Collective has a closed loop system that recycles all water, and Seek Collective runs a zero-waste process where leftover fabric is repurposed into quilts, sleep sets, napkins and bandanas while very small pieces are turned into paper. Garments from Seek Collective are wrapped in recycled paper and mailed in biodegradable packaging, the compostable hang tags will grow into a basil plant, and one tree is planted for every product sold through a One Tree Planted partnership.

What the label won’t tell you

The questions sensitive skin actually asks, answered

103/103 styles scanned, no sampling 1% plant · 0% synthetic PFAS-free (verified) ✓ read from the live product feed, not the marketing page
?Are there hidden chemicals against my skin?
~9% of people react to formaldehyde, common in wrinkle-free and easy-care finishes.
Seek Collective is PFAS-free (verified). Dye process on record: Low-impact / GOTS-certified dyes. We record the dye process and chemical flags for every brand.
?Is “100% cotton” actually 100%?
Most “cotton” underwear hides elastane or spandex in the waistband, exactly what sensitive skin reacts to.
We read all 103 styles individually: 1% plant, 0% synthetic. Even the elastics are bio-based, not spandex. We flag any style whose description hints at a trim.
?Is “sustainable” just greenwashing?
“Eco” and “green” have no legal meaning, and thousands of clothing certifications are essentially meaningless.
We scanned 103 styles from the store’s own product feed and publish a score only at full coverage.
?Will the elastic bring me out in a rash?
Latex and rubber in waistbands are a top trigger for contact dermatitis and latex allergy.
1% plant, 0% synthetic across the catalogue means the elastics aren’t spandex. Set your allergy profile and we only show you brands that clear it.
?Am I shedding microplastics onto my body?
Synthetic underwear sheds microplastics into skin and water with every wash.
1% plant fibre, plastic-free, so there’s zero synthetic to shed. Every style read individually, no sampling.
?Where is it really made, and by whom?
“Ethical” brands rarely name the farm or factory, so wage and safety claims cannot be checked.
We publish the full sourcing chain, farm and factory certifications, traceability level and the honest red flags, including where sources conflict. Traceability on record: Fibre-to-garment; factory: India (final stitching in Bangalore); designed in Berkeley, California, USA.

Sources: consumer research on formaldehyde in easy-care fabrics (~9% of people react), PFAS in water- and stain-resistant finishes, and hypoallergenic underwear for eczema and contact dermatitis.

Straight answers

Is Seek Collective sustainable and ethical?+
Seek Collective is poor on materials: our scan of all 95 styles found 1.2% plant fibre (1.2% synthetic, 97.6% animal). Documented facts: Seek Collective's Climate Beneficial wool is independently verified by Fibershed; garments are made via traditional Indian craft techniques (block printing, natural dyeing, handloom weaving) with final stitching at a woman-owned unit in southern India; the brand uses natural fibers including organic and recycled cotton, compostable hang tags and biodegradable packaging; and Eco-S
Where is Seek Collective made?+
Seek Collective garments are designed in Berkeley, California and manufactured by artisan communities throughout India, with the founder stating she works directly with hand block printers, handloom weavers and natural dyers, and final garment stitching done at a small woman-owned and operated stitching unit in southern India (Bangalore). Its separate Climate Beneficial wool line is sourced from sheep on a California farm, with the yarn dyed in North Carolina and knit in California.
Who owns Seek Collective?+
Seek Collective was founded in 2012 by Carol Miltimore, a Parsons School of Design graduate who worked over a decade as a fashion designer before starting the label. Seek Collective is a woman-owned, independent business with no parent company identified in available sources; Miltimore is Founder and CEO. It launched in Brooklyn, New York in 2012 and later relocated with its founder to Berkeley, California (around 2019-2020), where it is now designed.
Is Seek Collective legit and worth it?+
Seek Collective is a real, currently-trading legitimate business operating its own e-commerce site (seekcollective.com), which is live and taking orders as of July 2026. It is, however, winding down its womenswear line: the site runs a prominent "Shop the Last of Womenswear" clearance banner and a blog post references "wrapping up Seek Collective as a brand focused on women's wear," while the brand pivots toward season-less unisex staples and home goods (quilts, pillows, art).
Is Seek Collective fast fashion?+
Seek Collective is a slow, small-batch brand, not fast fashion. The founder describes it as "a slow fashion brand," and production relies on hand block printing, natural dyeing, handloom weaving and hand embroidery, with the brand stating these processes take at least two months per textile before stitching even begins. It sells small artisan-made runs rather than high-volume, trend-driven mass production.
Is Seek Collective non-toxic and safe for skin?+
Seek Collective is largely non-toxic: 1.2% of its range is plant fibre that breathes and biodegrades, with 1.2% plastic-based synthetics that can shed microplastics. Certifications: Seek Collective does not publicly hold GOTS, OEKO-TEX, Fair Trade, B Corp or European Flax certification, none of which appear on its site or in third-party listings. The one verified third-party credential is Fibershed's "Climate Beneficial" wool verification, which applies specifically to its California-sourced wool line. Eco-Stylist lists Seek Collective as "Certified" under its own reader-facing criteria, but this is Eco-Stylist's internal vetting rather than an independent standards certification..
Is Seek Collective certified?+
Seek Collective does not publicly document a recognised textile certification such as GOTS or OEKO-TEX in the sources we checked. What we can confirm is the material itself: our scan of 77 Seek Collective styles found 80.5% is 100% plant fibre, so Seek Collective's natural-fibre standing rests on its composition rather than a certificate.
What is Seek Collective made of?+
Our scan of all 95 Seek Collective styles found 1.2% of the range is 100% plant fibre, with 97.6% animal fibre, 1.2% synthetic and 0% semi-synthetic. The most common fibres in the Seek Collective styles we read were cotton and silk. That composition is the measurable fact behind what Seek Collective is made of, so check the specific Seek Collective label for any individual piece.
